Daal Tadka


The Daal Tadka Recipe is a preparation made from a variety of different lentils and a lot of spices making it a favourite accompaniment with Rice or Rotis/Naan etc.

Serves 4.



Ingredients:
  • 1 cup  Toor daal / arhar daal

  • 2 Tomato  chopped

  • 3 Small Onions chopeed

  • 1tsp ginger garlic paste

  • 1/2 cup chopped Coriander leaves

  • Turmeric powder - a pinch

  • Hing - a pinch

  • Salt - to taste

  • Oil - 2 tsp
To Temper :
  • Oil / Ghee - 1 tbsp

  • Jeera - 1 tsp

  • Dry red chillies - 2 halved
Method:
  1. Pressure cook daal with 4cups and a pinch of turmeric powder and salt until soft or give 1 whistles in a pressure cooker.

  2. Leave to cool for 10-15 min.

  3. Heat ghee in a pan, add zeera and allow it to splutter. Then add asofiteda, ginger garlic paste and onions.

  4. Add one red chilli and saute for 2-3mins

  5. Now add tomato and saute till tomatoes are cooked nad oil separates .

  6. Next add salt, and  sprinkle little water and let it boil for 2mins.

  7. Now add dal, mix well and let it boil for 3 more mins.

  8. Add Coriander leaves and Serve.

  9. Serve with Jeera Rice or even tandori roti or chapati
